Did you know that having a clean and organized home is one of the most overlooked health benefits?

Our homes are our sanctuary.  Creating an environment that is healthy and clutter-free can reduce your stress and improve your overall outlook on life.  Making the decision to detoxify your home and cleanse your environment may be just what you need to achieve wellness in all areas of your life.

 I recommend a deep cleaning every 4 months at the beginning of the new year, when spring begins and at the end of summer, thoroughly clean your home that will help you prevent allergies and help you reduce stress and enjoy your home and family more.  This requires time and energy.  Think of it as an exercise.  Plan to divide it into sections.  Don’t get overwhelmed.  Start in one area.  I suggest starting in the master bathroom or kitchen because they take the longest.  This is a good time to inspect your home for hazards like misplaced electrical cords or potential fire hazards.

 And now is the time to clean out your fridge and pantry and throw away any out-of-date food or anything you haven’t used in more than six months.  When dusting, start at the top (lamps) and work your way down (baseboards) moving around the room in an orderly fashion (left to right).  I recommend cleaning closets, basements, garages, cabinets and patios.  A clean, organized and orderly house helps to be more productive and reduces stress.

Get organized and plan so you don’t forget any corner of the house.  When removing dust, be careful to “wet clean” all surfaces that have been impacted by dust.  It is best not to use a feather duster on any area that you are deep cleaning.  You don’t want to breathe in old dust particles.  I recommend wearing a mask to protect yourself from dust.

 At the end of every deep clean, I recommend using a  nasal cleanser and shower to help prevent allergic reactions.  One of the best feelings you can have is waking up to a neat and clean house.  Once this is done, create a schedule and ritual to maintain your beautiful sanctuary.  This is the start of making healthier choices that will help you get moving toward a healthier you.
